Senior Footwear Business: The Commercial Questions to Answer First

Entrepreneurs evaluating senior footwear usually ask about the same issues before contacting a brand: how much cash is required, whether the starting quantity is manageable, what the first-order support actually covers, what each pair costs after import, how much gross margin may be achievable, what happens to slow stock and how product problems are handled.

These questions must be answered together. A low quoted product price is not useful if freight and duties are omitted. A high theoretical margin is not useful if the products do not sell. Opening support creates more value when the first assortment, size curve and local channel are chosen carefully.

Start With the Business Model, Not a Fixed Entry Figure

A senior footwear business does not always require a standalone store. A prospective partner may begin with samples, a small mixed-SKU test, an online pilot, a comfort-footwear section inside an existing shop, a shop-in-shop, local wholesale distribution or a dedicated store. Each model has a different cash requirement and risk profile.

ZULIZ's current low-barrier cooperation policy removes two brand-side barriers: there is no brand usage fee, and the US$50,000 brand security deposit is waived. This does not remove real local operating costs such as inventory, freight, duties, rent, staff, marketing, payment fees and working capital. The right starting plan depends on the market, channel and partner capability.

What Low-Barrier MOQ Means

There is no single public quantity that is right for every partner. A prospective partner may request samples or discuss a small mixed-SKU test when local demand, fit or the size curve is uncertain. A partner with existing traffic, retail accounts or strong market evidence may choose a larger but still sellable first commercial order.

The first launch should balance learning and economic efficiency. A larger first order can make fuller use of one-time opening support when the assortment, cash flow and sales plan justify it. The objective is a successful first market entry and healthy repeat orders, not a large shipment that becomes slow inventory. The applicable order quantity, item-level or size-level requirements, products, sizes, availability, timing, exclusions and other conditions must be confirmed in the written cooperation plan.

Current ZULIZ Opening Support

  • No brand usage fee under the current cooperation policy.
  • The US$50,000 brand security deposit is waived.
  • For a qualifying first commercial order, agreed eligible purchased pairs may be matched with an equal number of eligible support pairs at no additional merchandise charge, subject to the written cooperation plan.
  • The support pairs may include different eligible SKUs. Headquarters normally recommends variety so the partner can test more customer needs, sizes, climates and selling occasions.

The commercial principle is simple: the rules provide a framework, but the launch plan should serve both parties' goal of building sell-through and repeat business. Eligibility, purchased and support SKUs, sizes, quantities, availability, timing, shipment treatment, exclusions and other conditions must be agreed in writing. Opening support does not automatically apply to every SKU, every order or future reorder.

Wholesale Price, Effective Merchandise Cost and Landed Cost Are Different

For selected styles, effective average merchandise cost can start below US$10 per pair after applicable first-order support. This is not a universal wholesale price and it is not the delivered cost in every country.

Landed cost per sellable pair = effective merchandise cost after applicable support + allocated freight and insurance + duties and non-recoverable taxes + customs clearance and inspection + local inbound delivery.

Support pairs supplied at no additional merchandise charge are not automatically zero-value customs goods. Depending on destination rules, they may still require a customs value and may incur freight, duty, VAT or other import taxes, clearance and local handling. The importer of record and a qualified customs broker should confirm the treatment before shipment.

ZULIZ pricing should be evaluated from the written quotation and a destination-specific landed-cost model, not from a broad assumption about country-of-origin price advantage. Store rent, payroll, marketing, payment fees, warehousing, exchanges and markdowns sit above landed cost and affect net profit.

Gross Margin, Net Profit and Foreign Exchange

Under suitable local pricing and normal sell-through, a ZULIZ partner may plan toward an average retail gross-margin target of approximately 60% to 70%. This is a planning target, not a guaranteed return, and it refers to gross margin rather than net profit.

Gross margin = (net sales revenue - matching cost of goods sold) / net sales revenue. The calculation should use the same currency basis and the same sales cohort. Discounts, returns, channel fees, rent, payroll, marketing, financing and tax affect the result after the product gross-margin calculation.

A favorable currency relationship can improve the spread between local retail revenue and imported product cost, but a currency with a higher face value does not automatically create more profit. Exchange rates can move in either direction. Product-market fit, realized selling price, complete landed cost and sell-through remain the governing variables.

Can the Support Pairs Be Different SKUs?

Yes, when agreed in the written cooperation plan. Headquarters normally recommends using different eligible SKUs so the partner can learn which customer groups, sizes, climates and purchase occasions respond best. The final mix should reflect the partner's channel and local evidence; commercial cooperation remains flexible when a different assortment is more likely to create a successful launch.

What If Some Stock Moves Slowly?

First review the issue by SKU, size, color, channel and realized retail price. The next order, product mix, size curve, merchandising or sales channel can then be adjusted from actual sell-through data.

Where a relevant regional warehouse and suitable inventory are available, stock coordination or transfer may be discussed rather than ruled out automatically. For example, local coordination may be more practical for a Singapore partner when suitable Singapore inventory is available. This is not an automatic stock-buyback or exchange promise. Availability, stock ownership, freight, taxes, territory restrictions, approval and settlement must be confirmed in writing.

How Are Exclusive Rights Discussed?

Country, city or channel exclusivity is not created automatically by a first order or by requesting an open territory. ZULIZ considers the proposed market, sales channels, operating capability, launch plan, inventory and service capability, brand-development commitments and measurable performance milestones.

The purpose is to give a capable partner enough protection to invest while avoiding an inactive territory. Products, channels, territory, term, performance obligations, review points, renewal conditions and termination rights must be stated in the signed agreement. The framework is disciplined, but the cooperation discussion can remain practical because the shared objective is a profitable market launch and sustainable repeat business.

How One-Year Global After-Sales Works

For a qualifying sole separation or sole break reported within one year under the applicable policy, retain proof of purchase or the order record, the relevant SKU details and clear photographs and video. The case is reviewed and the evidence is verified through the applicable cooperation channel.

After review and approval, the corresponding amount is credited directly against the cooperation partner's goods payment. Global after-sales is coordinated through the applicable local store, agent, distributor or cooperation channel. Submission alone does not create an automatic right to a new pair, cash refund or credit, and this wording does not extend the policy to every type of wear, damage, fit issue or product complaint.

What Does ZULIZ's Sales Scale Show?

ZULIZ reports that global cumulative sales have exceeded 100,000,000 pairs. This company-reported figure provides scale context; it does not guarantee demand, sales or profit in a specific market. A local pilot still has to prove product fit, price acceptance and sell-through.

What Information Should a Prospective Partner Submit?

Share the target country and city, current business, intended sales channel, expected retail-price range, preferred cooperation model, approximate starting quantity, desired categories, size range and planned launch timing. ZULIZ can then discuss samples, a mixed-SKU pilot or a qualifying first commercial order and document the applicable support, pricing, landed-cost inputs, inventory options, rights and after-sales process.

FAQ

Is selling senior footwear a good business?

It can be a strong business when the products meet a real local need, the retail price is accepted and inventory sells at a healthy rate. The opportunity should be tested through samples or a mixed-SKU pilot. A low purchase price, favorable exchange rate or large market estimate alone does not guarantee demand or profit.

What does low-barrier entry mean for a ZULIZ partner?

Under ZULIZ's current cooperation policy, there is no brand usage fee and the US$50,000 brand security deposit is waived. Partners still need to budget for merchandise, freight, duties, local operating costs and working capital. The appropriate launch model and starting quantity depend on the market, channel and written cooperation plan.

What is the minimum order quantity for a ZULIZ partner?

There is no single public quantity that is right for every partner. A prospective partner may request samples or discuss a small mixed-SKU test. A larger but still sellable first commercial order may make fuller use of the one-time opening support when traffic, cash flow and the local sales plan justify it. The applicable order quantity, item-level or size-level requirements, products, sizes, availability, timing, exclusions and other conditions must be confirmed in writing.

What does the first-order product support include?

For a qualifying first commercial order, agreed eligible purchased pairs may be matched with an equal number of eligible support pairs at no additional merchandise charge, subject to the written cooperation plan. The support pairs may include different eligible SKUs. Eligibility, purchased and support SKUs, sizes, quantities, availability, timing, shipment treatment and exclusions must be confirmed in writing. Opening support does not automatically apply to every SKU, every order or future reorder.

What is the wholesale price and the real landed cost per pair?

For selected styles, effective average merchandise cost can start below US$10 per pair after applicable first-order support. This is not a universal wholesale price or landed cost. Freight, insurance, duties, taxes, customs clearance, inspection and local delivery are additional. Support pairs may also require a customs value and may incur import costs under destination rules.

How much gross margin can a partner target, and does foreign exchange increase profit?

Under suitable local pricing and normal sell-through, a partner may plan toward an average retail gross-margin target of approximately 60% to 70%. This is gross margin, not net profit or a guarantee. A favorable currency relationship can improve the price spread, but exchange rates can move and do not make an unsuitable product sell. Realized price, complete landed cost and sell-through determine the result.

Can first-order support pairs be different SKUs?

Yes, when agreed in writing. Headquarters normally recommends different eligible SKUs to test more customer needs, sizes, climates and selling occasions. The final mix can be discussed around the partner's channel and local evidence because both parties benefit from a successful launch and repeat orders.

Can slow-moving inventory be transferred through a regional warehouse?

Possible stock coordination or transfer may be discussed when a relevant regional warehouse, suitable inventory and workable local conditions exist. For example, coordination may be more practical for a Singapore partner when suitable Singapore inventory is available. It is not an automatic buyback or exchange promise; availability, ownership, freight, taxes, territory and approval must be confirmed in writing.

Does a first order automatically create exclusive territory rights?

No. Country, city or channel exclusivity depends on the market plan, operating capability, sales channels, service capability, investment and measurable performance commitments. Products, channels, territory, term, performance obligations, review points, renewal conditions and termination rights must be agreed in a signed contract. A practical arrangement can be discussed when it supports a profitable launch for both parties.

How is sole separation or sole break handled within one year?

For a qualifying case reported within one year under the applicable policy, retain proof of purchase or the order record, the relevant SKU details and clear photographs and video. After review and verification, the corresponding amount is credited directly against the cooperation partner's goods payment through the applicable local store, agent, distributor or cooperation channel. Submission alone does not create automatic approval.

How many pairs has ZULIZ sold globally?

ZULIZ reports that global cumulative sales have exceeded 100,000,000 pairs. This company-reported scale provides context but does not guarantee demand, sales or profit in a particular market; local product fit, pricing and sell-through must still be tested.
